Enzyme Based Drain Cleaner - What Is It? How Does it Work?

We're taking a break for the holidays! We'll be closed from midday Friday, 20th December, and back on deck from 6th January. If you need anything urgently during this time, don't worry—we'll be keeping an eye on emails and orders. Feel free to reach out!

Enzymes are also used as cleaning agents. The enzymes in drain cleaners work by breaking down fats and oils that build up in drains. This helps prevent clogs and blockages.

There are two main types of enzyme based drain cleaner products available today. One type uses an acid base reaction to break down fats and oils. The other type uses a combination of acids and alkalies to do the same thing.

Enzymes have been around since the beginning of life on Earth. In fact, enzymes were one of the first molecules discovered by scientists.

Enzymes are made up of amino acids and are very similar to proteins. However, unlike proteins, enzymes are not made up of chains of amino acids. Instead, enzymes are made up of smaller units called peptides. These peptides are held together by chemical bonds.

Enzymes are also known as catalysts because they speed up chemical reactions without being consumed or destroyed themselves.

Enzymes are often added to drain cleaners to help break down fats and grease. This helps prevent clogs and blockages in drains.
